This is a BBC adaptation of an early and lesser Thomas Hardy novel which the screen writer has seen fit to alter to make the plot more like "Far From the Madding crowd" It concerns a rural village schoolteacher who is pursued by three men, the local pastor, an older rich landowner, and a penniless but handsome young man smitten by her beauty. Well acted and costumed but lacking the authentic dialect of the area in the magnificent screen adaptation of the aforementioned "...Crowd". Still, enjoyable, especially if you like Hardy (and I do).
