"Zodiac": Too long yet too condensed

John Carroll Lynch (#1 suspect) gave an Oscar-winning "reaction" near the end of the film when he realized Jake G. had just walked up out of nowhere and "made him".

This movie is going to be of more interest to us boomers than anyone as this was a true sensation when we were in our late teens and early twenties. Even though this film "chronicles" the true events it is both overly long and too condensed. The time-line subtitles at the bottom of the screen shows how many years slid by as it consumed those close to the case yet the action makes you think it all happened in two years.

Among the ensemble cast the most annoying was the overly flamboyant character Downey Jr played. A drunken, barely controlled crime writer who finally pushed his own investigation so far it got him disappeared to boondocks

I suppose the film is best as an "overview" to a case that was far more complicated than the six o'clock news could have ever conveyed.
