Ex Machina for visual FX. No argument there. And the CGI did not dominate the story. Instead it served the story. I thought the script was worthy as well but it lacked nominations. Studio A24. We're going to be more great movies coming out of that studio.

Best Supporting Actress: Alicia Vikander for her role in The Danish Girl. Haven't seen that movie. No plans to. More Hollywood social engineering at work. Even so, I like Alicia and will see more of her movies.

Best Actor in a leading role: DiCaprio....? When The Revenant comes out on video I'll give it a look. I liked DiCaprio in Blood Diamonds and a few other notable movies like; Catch Me if You Can, The Departed, The Wolf of Wall Street, and some I've probably forgotten to mention. I've never thought of him as a great actor. More like he's got a presence that works on the big screen. Who knows why.

Mad Max: Fury Road. Having seen this on the big screen in 3D and lately on HBO, I concede that this is a well made movie with a simple plot line that works well. The movie has heart. And in such a lavish arrangement of trash. But I guess that's the thing about the Mad Max movies. Post Apocalyptic and all.

Yawn. Not an exceptional past year for the movies....though some stand out....like Mad Max.
