Re: Anyone tried the Philips Q50?

I use to have the Sony 9000ES. My initial thoughts:

* Q50 has better low end resolution for CD playback. Much more noticable bass than my 9000ES.

* Q50 picture quality is very sharp, seems like the 9000ES picture was a tad on the soft side. Depending on your personal preference, I thought the 9000ES was more "film like". I need to tweak the video settings on the Q50 to see what happens. Out of the box, the Q50 picture colors seem a bit too "brilliant" for my tastes as well. Once again...video settings may ovecome this for my tastes.

* When watching 2.35 aspect ratio film, the black bars on my Loewe Aconda are not square with the picture tube. The 9000ES was dead square, so something with my picture alignment is off. The Q50 will allow you to adjust the horizonal placement (left and right adjustments) but not vertical. I'm wondering if my unit is not calibrated correctly. Any thoughts?
