You can look at the Denon 3802 which has gotten some very good reviews. I have it and am completely satisfied for a mid-fi setup.
Also know the feeling of confusion, went through it trying to decide on a receiver a few months ago.
I found Ecoustics helpful in checking for reviews to help make a decision.
