... not only in initial purchase, but in repairs & maintenance as I'm discovering.
Two years ago, when finally disposing of our last business assets and completely retiring, I splurged on an expensive Barco 808s projector and a VSE40 enhancer/switcher (quadruples and handles 6 video inputs).
Well the enhancer died 2 weeks ago and the Melbourne Barco repair centre has finally got back to me with the joyful news that at least one board needs replacing at a parts cost of about $500 USD per board. Not only that but there is at least a 3 week wait for parts to come from Belgium.
So, we are back in another room to our Sony KV-3400 M monitor fed into a Proton amp & RJS speakers (nice). Forget surround sound for the moment (the old Fosgate 2 is not very impressive) and it is educational to experience the acoustic problems of a livelier rectangular room. I'm not expecting tears on our behalf because this is a very nice system in its own right but it is sad to see the main system's video down.
Consolation: the audio is still intact so LPs & CDs still come through with all their glory (if they have any to offer) but the DVDs & LDs are having a holiday. No real hardship as there is plenty of interesting video material being taped from satellite and it is coming through on the Sony, via ordinary VHS tape, better than free to air with its inevitable (even if faint) ghosting. Roll on digital TV.
