I think that's fairly common. The unit can anly use one source and chooses the one with presumed higher quality. I have no idea if this is donw mechanically (inseting s-vid connector opens a contact switch) or electronicly (some manner of signal sensing). I can see how this is a necessity to avoid recieving two signals.
