Toshiba's (on my SD9200) zoom actually softens up the image quite a bit. Maybe it doesn't show up on small TV's, but on a 100" projector, it is quite annoying. It doesn't do linear scaling, but staggers the edge to give it a feathered look. Something like:

To:
xxxx
xxx
xxxxxx
xxxxx
xxxxxxxx
xxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxx

Instead of:
xxxx
xxxxx
xxxxxx
xxxxxxx
