could not tell you about Dish Network, but i have had DirecTV for about 3-4 years and only once had a service problem... the system has been very reliable. I can tell you that not all directTV receivers are alike... don't bother with any other than a Sony... I have had RCA, and Mitsubishi and my mom got a JVC and they are inferior in picture quality to the Sony.Sam
