Flat Screen vs Regular old TV--HELP

24.26.191.4

I am shopping for a new TV and have been looking at and trying to research Flat Screen TVs most likely a 24 or 27" (due to my space and budget restraints). I have seen lots of good reviews for the Sony Wegas, and then some very Bad reviews. In the bad reviews I've seen stuff about the geometry problems, pink lines forming on the screen, fuzzy edges etc. Are these problems just with the Sony's or on all Flat Screens? In searching thru your site I saw a frequent poster named "Sysinfo" say to simply stay away from Flat Tube TVs. Does he know something everyone else is missing out on? Has anyone owned one of these for more than a few months? Is it still performing well? Is it worth the extra money or should I just buy a regular tube TV? I'll be hooking it up to a DVD, VCR, Digital Cable & home stereo. What are the ups and downs of these flat screen TVs? Please don't advise Plasma or HDTV--I can't afford it, I just need some good sense advise.
