There's no user-serviceable way to disable the SVM, but a tweaker named Brett has a web site that describes how to do it (URL below). I'm not a gearhead by any means -- I'm a writer, not an engineer -- but it took me all of 10 or 15 minutes. Pulling those wires can be hard, though. The connector is crimped on pretty tight.

I wouldn't EVER judge a TV picture by what you see in the store. The colors and brightness are pushed up way high to look good in the store. The ISF calibration would look dim and dull in the store, but is absolutely stunning in a light-controlled room. That's because color temperatures, brightness, etc. are *natural*, not tweaked to stand out from a bank of screens at Big Tube City.

Depending on where you are and availability of ISF services, I recommend Gregg Loewen. He does traveling tours around the country tweaking sets. He did mine two weeks ago and I couldn't be happier with the result.
