Pioneer DV-344 and Philips 29pt8419 component input help

I have a Pioneer DV-344 DVD that I wish to connect to my Philips 29PT8419 CTV via the component inputs. The DVD player has a switch on the back to switch from component outs to composite/s-video out.
The TV has component in but seems to sync on AV1 not green which I understand is normal to sync on green.
Am I missing something, is there another reason that it does not seem to want to work - I have the components from dvd to TV, the audio on the DVD play is out via an optical cable to my Sony STR-DB1070, the composite out is plugged into the DVD-Video in on the receiver, and I have the monitor out of the receiver going to AV1 video in.
When I switch to AV I get a picture, when I switch to CV1 - nothing.
During this the switch on the DVD player is set to Component out, when I switch it to composite out, I get picture on AV1 and black (not my normal blue screen) on CV1.
