Harsh DD / DTS - processor options?

Hi all
I'm currently using a satisfying stereo rig IMHO. On occasion, I use my Arcam DV88 DVD player's analogue stereo outputs into my stereo preamp to watch the odd movie. My experience with this is that it is harsh on some films particularly the higher end. Speech is however easily intelligble.
I thought I'd try the surround processor/preamp Rotel RSP-1066 hooked directly to the stereo poweramp and although there was an improvement it wasn't altogether gone. It was much more unpleasant watching a movie than listening to a CD (even an 'average' one).
Any tips for processors with quality surround sound decoders that might take off this edge? The re-eq on the sound track helped a bit but not entirely solving the problem. I don't think it's an issue with the amount of treble just the quality.
I'm thinking of investigating Classe and Proceeed but if I don't need to spend that much it would be good :)
My current stereo rig is:
Musical Fidelity A3CR Pre & Pro
B&W CDM9NT
AudioQuest Bedrock SBW
DVD movie source is Arcam DV88 as stated above. FYI its CD sound does not exhibit the same harshness as found on DD tracks.
Being here in Australia it does limit the choice available - Anthem for example is not available in 230V.
