Somebody asked about noise from Sony TV's a while ago: solution

I had occasion to strip my system power center down for upgrades, so had the chance to investigate the noise with the Sony TV. It's not audible for me with the power center. First, it is definitely the TV, doesn't matter if it's on or off, noise is the same as long as it's plugged in. Even worse, the Sony TV picks up all the crap from lights on dimmers etc. ...nothing else in my system does, noise is only when the Sony is plugged in.

BTW I normally have no connections from the TV to my audio system at all, had no other connections to the TV for the test, so the TV noise must be via the TV power cord.

An AC isolation transformer for the TV is the solution. Totally kills all noise, dead silent, turned on every dimmer light I had as a test and still no noise, either high frequency or hum. It's not the filter as I had thought before, the filter doesn't matter it seems, it was actually the isolation trannie that was killing the TV noise for me. Who knows what other benefit I'm getting, hell the picture might even be cleaner because of the iso trannie.
