Doesn't some of the DD/DTS 5.1 downmix to 2ch while preserving the surround information?

By doing some sort of ( Surround L + Surround R ) / 2 and placing it in the L & R channel, with one of the signal's phase inverted. This way, the information could be extracted by DPL processors.

I presume they are already doing it for the center channel, or else dialogue would never be present in DD/DTS 5.1 via analog 2ch output.
