A little help with HDTV and built in HDTV tuners

Apologies in advance, - I did a search but did not get the answers that I seek.

Does the Sony KV-36HS500 36" have built in HDTV and NTSC tuners; alleviating the need for an external HDTV tuner/box?

How do I know when a regular TV is HDTV ready? All digital T.V.s/monitors are not necessarily HDTV ready, correct?

Do external HDTV tuners also have NTSC tuners built in so that you can watch non HDTV shows? Or, - do most T.V.s that are HDTV ready have NTSC built in and will accept HDTV signals from the separate tuner?

Finally, an HDTV tuner does not convert the signal to analog or "step down" the signal so that it is really doing NTSC right?

Sorry for the 17 million questions. If there are answers contained in some missive somewhere on the Internet, - I would be grateful for a link or any help.

Cheers,
