best tv for $1500 or less?

i'm looking for something 16:9, i have no problem spending up to about $1500. i wouldn't mind something hdtv compatible one bit. basicly the things i want most are a 16:9 aspect ratio and a ridiculously nice picture, all the other features don't really matter much to me. it will be used mostly for watching dvd's.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
