John, thanks for the interesting information about your JVC hard disk recorder. I'm also waiting for DVD recorder standards to settle down or at least come down in price once more.As for plain old S-VHS VCR's, I just bought a new Mitsubishi unit last week and saw a couple JVC models as well. These were not the "quasi" S-VHS models but "real" S-VHS record and playback on real S-VHS tapes. The selection was not great and the build quality wasn't up to the last generation of S-VHS VCR's. I was told by the sales rep that not many people are buying them anymore and the manufacturers are not focusing their attention on high quality S-VHS VCR's these days.
