Multiple DVD players connection

Is it possible to connect two(2) dvd players(one with a digital coaxial cable and the other with a digital optical cable) to an a/v receiver with just 2 digital inputs(1 coaxial and 1 optical) which are both on the dvd section on the back of the receiver without doing any harm to anything? The a/v receiver allows me to tell it what type of input is being used for the dvd section(coaxial, optical or both) which in this case, I would select both so that the receiver would automatically detect what type of digital signal is being used. BTW, I won't be using both dvd players at the same time anytime, since I know for sure that it would cause problems.
