Re: Need to adjust sound level settings depending on source?

As posted the Radio Shack meter (basic analog) for 30 something bucks
is the standard for calibration. It is essential to do an accurate job of matching channels with a meter at the beginning. From there you can tweak depending on your room and tastes. It is not uncommon for different source levels to vary considerably in overall volume and this is often not adjustable, you just learn to hit the volume control before switching. It is desirable to be able to set the volumes for bass, center and rear from the remote without having to access an on screen menu. It is desirable to be able to set different bass settings for different play modes regardless of source, for instance folks often bump movie modes up 5-10 dB in the bass from the calibrated level but knock off a few dB of bass for pcm or stereo music listening.

Anyway you can follow the link to Home Theater Forum, go to speakers and subs and try searching for SPL meter, radio shack and so forth.
There is a ton of info. about calibration.
