Panasonic Pro VCRs....

I've been lurking on ebay lately, considering a new VCR, mainly for taping video, but I know how good Audio can sound on 1/2 inch too, so that is a consideration. Anyhow, I've pretty much narrowed it down to older Panasonic professional recorders, AG-blah, but I'm pretty much overwhelmed.

For starters, my budget is about $150, less is better, but can be stretched. For this price, should I even try to get an SVHS deck? Which models should I be considering? Can someone explain their model numbering scheme to me? How important is low hours (if I can even get this information)?

Sorry for the breadth of the question, but I'm really quite confused...and this doesn't seem to be a terribly common topic.
