How to test position of surround speakers

I have a pair of Dipoles which I intend to hang up as surround speakers. Having read now the various advise on positions of speakers etc I would however still like to be able to play around with the positions prior fixing them in place. Can anyone share their experience as to how they went about positioning the spk temporarily on the walls (without drilling holes like swiss cheese all over the walls) prior fixing the spk in place? The speakers I have are Paradigm ADP-170.
