No - X1 has de-interlacer on board

The X1 has a Farjudja de interlacing chip which is by passed if you are inputting a progressive signal. Bottom line is that its best to use an interlaced player with component outputs and feed it into the faroudja chip through the modified S-Video socket. Progressive signals have to fed into the VGA socket

PAL system DVD's are fantastic as they get de interlaced as well
