Minimum Plasma TV requirement to match progressive scan DVD player

What do I need to look for in a plasma to best suit it for a progressive scan DVD player? Will an EDTV work? I do not watch a whole lot of regular television so HDTV for the sake of TV is not a requirement. I'm considering something along the lines of a Panasonic TH-42PWD6 or something else in the $2500-3500 range:
