eBay's "VERO" program. What the Hell?

Hey there.

Recently I decided to sell a piece of video equipment on eBay that I no longer use. It's a Sima Copymaster for clean VHS copies. And, yes it does defeat copy protection. Says so on the package. I bought this unit new at Best Buy a couple of years ago, & since I rarely use a VCR anymore, I decided to get rid of it.

Ebay sent me a form e-mail telling me that my listing was removed by a "VERO" member because it "infringed on intellectual or copyright" law. The member that had my listing pulled was Muckrovision. (Intentionally misspelled so the bastards won't say I'm "infringing on their copyright" by typing their name.)

So why the Hell does it infringe on copyright law when I sell ONE used unit & Best Buy, Circuit City, and countless online sellers sell them by the truckloads? And if it is an illegal product, why is Sima, a major electronics company, allowed to manufacture them?

I politely e-mailed the fine folks at Muckrovision to ask them the same question. Needless to say, I expect threats and I don't expect a sensible answer.

And eBay's explaination page states that they provide personal information (name, address, etc.) to VERO members who believe their rights have been infringed.

So now can I expect these a-holes to try to sue me over selling a used, legally purchased accessory from Best Buy?
