Best 5 channel processor or receiver for sound quality?

I would like suggestions as to the best 5 channel receiver or processor for sound quality, particularly stereo. I listen primarily 2 channel but also use the system for movies and the 10 DVD-A and SACD discs I have managed to find. I will be using external amps but some discontinued receivers are so cheap that they are very attractive. I am currently using a Panasonic RP-91 in upsample mode into a Kenwood VR-4090 receiver used only as a processor. Sound actually blows away my old Pioneer-Audio Alchemy modded DDE 3.0 with DTi Pro. I would like to upgrade the processor section but will only want 5 channels. Any thoughts?
