I'll second the Denon DVD-5900

The audio on this player isn't bad. In their own self interest some modders will plainly state that the Denon is poor in the audio department. Not true. There *is* room for improvement but even the stock 5900 is at least very good. I have a stock 5900 that is in fact better in the audio vs the stock Denon 2900 it replaced. As for redbook CD playback my Accuphase DP-65v ($6200 msrp) is a tad better but not by a huge margin. Could I live with the stock DVD-5900? Yes. Would I like to have it modded to squeeze a little better audio performance out of it? Yes. But I certainly wouldn't make the bold claim (as some modders do) that the audio from the stock Denon 5900 is poor. It is actually very good.
