laser alignment

If you have tried cleaning the lens and it still won't read the discs, either the laser is out of alignment or the optical pick-up is fried.

Alignment is about $35-$50 at a repair shop and a new pick-up can be anywhere from $25-$150, depending on what model you need and whether or not it's still available from Sony.

If you're in love with the player, have it checked out at the repair shop. If not, just get a new one.
