I also have an MC12 Ver 3 - by the way great pre/pro huh! Mine replaced an EAD Theater Master Signature 8 and I couldnt be happier.

The mics used are AKG C-98's. I emailed AKG and they said that the mics are specially made for Lexicon.

Seems possible that another mic would work but not sure. Why not post your question on the SMR Lexicon Audio forum.
