What is going on here

I have an NAD pre/pro and an NAD seven channel power amp, both their current models and each less than six months old. Recently the system developed a hum in the left front speaker. After checking all connections and swapping out the pre/pro to amp cable, I fixed the hum by using a cheater plug on the power amp at the surge protector.

But then I noticed that the front presentation, whether in stereo or multi-channel, was shifted to the right. I again checked all connections and also checked for proper phase. Everyhting checked. Using the circulating test tone I made all channels the same level using a sound level meter. But whn i swirched back to cintinuous music or movies, the sound was still shifted to the right of cewnter. I switched the center channel speker in and out of the system and there was still the right shift in either mode.

The only way I can center things is to add 4 db to the left front channel and subtract 4 db from the right front channel. 8 db is a lot of difference and I am mystified since test tones now are clearly louder in the left front channel.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
