Hum found--Now how to fix it?

My Satellite receiver's coaxial input/output go through my VCR in, which the audio outputs of the VCR go to my preamp, which is no problem, but when I try to connect the S-video output of the Sat receiver to the TV directly, or the Audio outputs of the Sat reciever
to the preamp I get a substantial hum. I've even went as far as to disconnect the VCR, but still get the hum. Any thoughts appreciated
