New TV interferes with stereo amp, causes crazy switching ...

I've had a TEAC JC-50 stereo for several years and it has performed without a hitch. I also have a TEAC CD player and VCR. A month ago I bought a new TEAC DVD (DV-2150), and yesterday in keeping with the TEAC theme, I bought a new TV (CT-M5150H). My set-up worked just fine with my old color TV, using the stereo for DVD audio amplification. But now I can't watch a DVD if the TV is on! The TV drives the amp crazy. This is one of those amps with touch-select buttons and whenever the TV is on, it cycles through the button settings - even turning the power switch on and off! It happens when the TV is up to 15 feet away (the limit of my audio cable length). It is not coming from the DVD. I hear clean audio when the DVD plays, but the moment the TV "on" button is pushed, the amp goes ballistic. There is no cable at all between the TV and amp. The only connection is the audio output from the DVD. At first I thought it may be due to some massive de-gaussing spike on TV switch-on, but it also happens in the steady state - i.e., TV on first and running, then switch on the stereo. It is normal for a second or two, then the crazy stuff begins. This happens even when there is NO cable connected to the DVD at all. So there's something coming from the TV. Can anyone help with suggestions on what I can do to fix this? I can't watch DVD's on my new TV unless I use the TV's mono sound system, which is pretty poor compared to the external stereo.
