PAL Cable box on NTSC TV (using composite video)

I have a Philips WideScreen HDTV set from USA, so it's NTSC. I am currently working abroad and cannot get a color picture from my cable box. The cable box has 2 settings: PAL and RGB. When it's connected to my TV (via composite -- not component -- video) and set to RGB, I get a black and white picture.

I always thought that composite video was independent of NTSC/PAL (as I have a US video that works fine with my PAL TV when connected with the yellow composite video cable.

I'd dearly like to get the cable box working in color with by widescreen TV. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to get this to work. The Cable box has 3 outputs: coax (obviously no good); yellow composite video (and red and white audio) and 21-pin Euro (Skart) connector.

If it's any help, the cable box is a Samsung 2.1.29

Regards

Mark
