Sony 61" Projection XBR & Sony DVD S9000ES

I have noticed that, on many DVD's, when there is unatural light (like in a tent in Gladiator or indoor lighting as in many other movies)and the camera pans, I sometimes see shadowy type bars/lines appear and move momentarily up or down the screen. They seem to be formed by an object in the movie that is in dark contrast to the background however they are not true shadows. They are not very noticable because they are not on the screen long and you can easily see through them, however, they are there. I did take my DVD player to Tweeter and connected it to a Pioneer Elite Projection Set and the Shadows were not there. When I place the DVD player in interlace mode they do not exist, only in Progressice Scan. Has anybody else noticed this artifact with this combination or have any ideas why I am getting these artifacts.
