Do we always need a Center Channel?

The main reason for a Center Channel Speaker seems to be to “focus” the dialog in the center of the TV/Screen.

But what if your set-up is a typical small bedroom with two people watching almost in the sweet spot. Can’t you just use a phantom center speaker in this case? Probably your front speakers are better than the center and you’ll end with improved sound.

Any comments?
