Don't know your room but most of the time it is far easier to put wall jacks behind the speakers and the amplifiers and then run the speaker wire through the attic or under the floor to the wall jacks. If this is not possible you may also try running wire around the perimeter of the room and push it under the baseboards. Actually going under the carpet uses the least amount of wire, but it is usually a bear. I would bank on needing the carpet professionally tacked down if you do in fact have to pick it up; it is very tough to lay it smoothly without proper tools and techniques.
