Cheap VCR suggestion!

I am going to replace my 3 years old sanyo VCR soon. It is an old mono audio output model, which mean it is really suck! It barely has enough output for practical use. I don't know how can I use it for that long.
I have two priority: reliable & decent sound and image qualities. Please suggest a brand or a model. I really don't have a clue of what to look for. Any warning for me would be appreciated.
