I have a 32" sony wega with component and S-video inputs, with a Sony DVD player (I think it is a 530). The DVD player is hooked up to the TV through the receiver using S-video (the kind that came with the DVD player) and directly using Monster component video cables. I will not profess to be any kind of expert, but I can switch quickly between the indirect S-video connection and the direct component connection and I do not see any noticible difference.
