Sorry, I don't need an Atom. But I did use a plain, shielded bookshelf speaker for a couple years because I didn't have the room either. Ideally, all the speakers on the front would be the same anyway, but as you pointed out there are packaging and aesthetic reasons as well. As close as you are to the speakers I think this "little guy" will do fine. Remember to make sure it is shielded, I don't recall if all Atoms are.
