$1K Home Theater PrePro - ANYONE KNOW OF ONE ??

To All ......
Did you ever wonder why you can buy a pretty decent HT receiver, with AC-3, DTS, 5 channels of amplification AND a FM reciever for $400 to $600 .... BUT it seems to be tough/impossible for a manufacturer to offer a reasonable pre /pro for anywhere in the range of $1K....

Maybe it's economy of scale - i.e. selling zillions and zillions of receivers makes them a "great value"... Or maybe it's the market, i.e. the guys who want separates expect to pay $1.5 to 3K and up.

Or maybe I'm just stupid and wrong - and someone DOES make a reasonably priced good sounding pre/pro for under 1K ....

If you know of a "bargain" pre/pro with good sound in this price range I'd love to hear about it .....
