I recently purchased a Pioneer Elite DV-05 DVD player. The reviews said it had a good CD sound. Compared to my Ah! Tjoeb99 it is good and bad. For old 60's and 70's rock CD's it sounds better. On my newer better recorded CD's it sounds worse. Basically there is less bass, less detail, and the instruments no longer sound as natural.I think for a typical home theatre enthusiast it would sound great. IMO if one is looking for great sound they should use the DVD as a transport and buy a DAC. Just my 2 cents.
