Pioneer DV-37 question

I have a question that maybe someone could help me with. This is probably gonna sound stupid to some of you, but I am having a problem with the Digital connection from my DVD player to my receiver. I have a Marantz SR-7000 receiver paired with the Pioneer Elite DV-37. When I hooked up the digital out port from my DVD player to the receiver, I still cannot play DVD's with DTS or Dolby Digital audio. My receiver says that the DVD player is still in Analog mode and cannot be switched to Digital mode. I have checked the connections and the setup on the receiver, but I cannot find what I am doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
