If your dvd player is progressive scan you are recieving 480p if it is not then 480i.The video processor would help the picture. However personally I would not spend a great deal of money processing a signal from a dvd up to 1080p. The orginal signal is still olny 480 lines. So you would elimate the scan lines and have a more stable glitch free picture but not a higher resolution one. If you were using a large screen front projector, I'd say go for a better video processor. But for a smaller screen like on your plasma, I would not buy one. High definition sources that are recorded at 1080p are not availible. So whatever source you would be viewing cable, or dvd would not be true 1080p. You would have 1080p though if you upconverted a hdtv broadcast that was 1080i to 1080p.
