Yes, I believe the DV-88 would give you alot more than competent sound and a clean picture. I was replacing a Pioneer Elite DV-37 when I auditioned these players. I thought the Arcam delivered a truer picture, better blacks, better saturations, the whites were crisper. The progressive scan was going to be an option upgrade at the time. The sound on the DV-88 was better than the DV-37 but the difference in the soundstage and the clarity on the PMDT was just startling.
