I'd have to agree w/ audioman here. Before I bought my Denon (different model, AVR-5700) I went to the store and cleared all the salespersons out of the listening room & went to town on all of the differet manufacturers models & volume controls.
The Denon's were clearly superior in clarity at the higher volumes. If you want functional, good sounding DSP modes, go with a yamaha for they exceed in this domain. If what your looking for is clean 2 channel volume and excellent DD/DTS decoding ... go Denon.
Remember to check the amount of digital "in's" that you'll need before making your selection.
