Well, JVC has a few that are fairly cheap but some generate a slight humm on video playback, you'll just have read some reviews. Myself, I just bought one newly released from Canon called the ZR30MC. It has a progressive shutter for really good stills and the power boot on top for an optional light or boom mike. You can see it at Canon's site, and it's very compact. In my opinion, it's better than the JVCs and Panasonics i've seen. But if you want the gold, go to Sony...but figure on spending well over a grand. The last best price for the ZR30 was at www.dbuys.com for 685.00 or something like that. The price fluctuates so look around the web first. It's also Firewire ready and comes with the multimedia cards for your photos. The MMC are also $20 cheaper than Sony's Memory Sticks. 32mb card is 59.00 and you get about 60 pictures at 120k res per 8mb card. You can get a MMC reader for about $28 from ZiO. Most others cost $60 or more.

Hope this helps,
Joe
Feel free to email for more results as I use my miniDV. I'm still learning the thing.
