Does anyone own a Yamaha RX-V1 Receiver?(help)

I'm embarassed to even post this after 25 years hooking up all kinds of components. The manual is really confusing. What's confusing is the connections for the different modes.What isn't clear is the instuctions to cord connections. A few of the suggestions seem like overlaps. This could get expensive if your not sure. Anyway I would really like to hear from anyone who has this unit. It would help.I also have the Sony 9000es DVD which hooks up to the Yamaha.
