I do not believe your projector can accept a 480p (progressive) signal from a DVD player.
However, you could still likely get a scaled XGA image from a HTPC.

Since you are limited to 480i from DVD or HTPC, the HTPC route would be vastly superior. 600 lumens is not too much though, make sure your projector will work for your application.room before investing in HTPC.

You could also pick up an external 1 box scaler likethe quadscan for $1k.
