Cheapo-phile needs advice: Tantus or Tau?

Looking for advice the experts I trust best!
I'm debating whether to get the Samsung Tantus 2792F/2790F (~$800) or the Panasonic Tau CT-27sx10 (~$500), or possibly the comparable Sony Wega($600) or Toshiba ($?). Price is an issue. Audio output from the built-in speakers is not.
I will be using it solely as a playback device with my Pioneer DV603, which has component video outs and progressive scan capability. One of my concerns is that the Pioneer's progressive scan capability won't be good enough to justify the 60% price increase to get the Tantus.
What do you all think?
