small, inoffensive, and inexpensive system?

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive home theatre system that'll tide me over for a few years? I'm considering postponing my purchase of Maggies until after college, thanks to the headache of moving them and setting them up in too-small rooms. However, I'd like a system that will at least make movies sound decent for the next couple of years -- I'm a film studies student, so it's important to me.
Since I don't plan to keep this around (at least as my main system) after graduation in two years, and I'm not planning on using it to listen to music -- in the current situation I'd prefer good headphones -- I'm looking to spend as little as possible, especially on the speakers. I've been interested in systems like the Cambridge Soundworks New Ensemble III, both for their size and price (around $300). Can anyone recommend any other small systems in that approximate price range that I should look at?
I suppose I'd be willing to spend a bit more on a receiver if I could use it as part of a better system in a few years, but it would have to be something capable of driving MMGs (center and rears) for a while; component video would be nice, too. Otherwise, what low-end ($200?) DD/DTS receivers are worth consideration?
Thanks for your help. I know a system like this isn't going to be mind-blowing, but I think I ought to give it some serious consideration. It's getting to be a pain lugging all of my stuff in and out of dorm rooms; convenience and a promise of MG 1.6s should get me through the next two years!
